The Goal

Fundraising efforts are underway to restore the former Havre de Grace Colored School. The goal is to convert the building into a museum and cultural center. The group hopes to have the restoration effort completed within the next three years.

The Cause

In March 2018, the Havre de Grace Colored School Foundation acquired the former Havre de Grace Colored School. The one-hundred-old school building was built in 1910 and served as an elementary school for grades 1 through 8. In 1930, a four room brick building was added to the existing 1910 building. This new portion served as the first pubic high school for African American children in Harford County.
